Pen randomly stops registering

This has been happening to me for quite a while now and I don't even know what causes it. I tried upgrading from CS6 to 2022 version just for this but it still insists on happening.

It starts happening when I change my window to another program. Let's say I opened PS, drawing normally. It registers my pressure, the input correctly as you can see in the attached file "normal". But when I change the window, for example Firefox, and then return to PS again, suddenly the inputs don't show up on the file correctly. It only sees the beginning and then cuts off randomly, as you can see in the attached file "problem".

The quick fix I have for this is to Select All, Deselect, Select All again. Sometimes it fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, I try browsing between the tools and wait for a few minutes until it fixes itself. I don't think I need to say that it completely botchers my workflow.

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit 21H2

I've seen something similar happen with Wacom tablets on Windows, on numerous versions of Photoshop dating back several years. Its seems to be memory-related but I never did find a root cause. The problem seems to have gone away with newer drivers and both system and app updates. Sorry if that's vague but at least its not just your system. I have not seen it on Mac.

BUT. I realized that it may not not be related to PS as a whole. Because, it was working fine on PS 22, until I added the program as a separate setting on the driver settings (under the text). If it's not there, it works okay but I can't get the intended pen pressure settings.

I thought it would fix it but seems like it was just wishful thinking. It still happens even if the program isn't added there. 😞

It started probably about a month ago while I was using CS6. I thought it could be due to the program getting old. So I thought I'd use 2022 version but the problem still occurs. But like I said, it works fine when I use another art program like CSP.

Hi @SkywaIker sorry to hear you are having issues. To confirm, you were using CS6 with your tablet and everything was working fine or this has been an issue for "quite a while...", is that weeks, months, years? Thank you for the samples as they show clearly what you are seeing.

Let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale settings somewhere:

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

LOL excuse me, I’m very sorry haha! I’m using XP-Pen Deco 01 V2, and I re-installed the latest driver (ver 3.3.10 build 83e8d5f) today before writing the first post just in case. I don’t think it’s due to the tablet though because it doesn’t happen with CSP.

I had to turn off the Windows Ink.
