Pencil tool does not write.

Recently in Elements 8 the pencil tool stopped working.  The paint bucket still works.  Sometimes I have found that I must erase the pixels first before writing over them.  I suspect that the tools need to be reset.  I cannot find the command to restore the tools back to the original setting.  How is the reset done in Elements 8?  Tnx

On the tool option bar with the pencil tool selected is the blending mode normal?

On my version, after selecting the pencil tool, the mode pull down menu does not have a "Normal" selection.  Under the paint brush a choice of mode does exist.  It was already set to "Normal".  The paint brush already worked correctly.

I do not use elements it may not have an option bar. Ask in the elements forum Photoshop Elements
