Question

Photo imports as smaller than original

Hi! I have a white background of 2800x2600 and i want to import an image on top of this 2600x2400.

It always imports as a very small image despite its 2600x2400 resolution.

I know i can drag it to make it bigger but i need it to be accurate in its original size and the scale right click button doesn't work.

Please help! Thanks

If you are using menu File>Place be careful.  If the image file being placed into the document print resolution is different then the document you are placing it into Place will resize the image being place in.   Also if the Smart Object layer is larger than  the document canvas Adobe Photoshop preference resize during place come into the game.  If checked and by default it is.  Place will adjust the Place transform to scale the smart object layer to fit onto the canvas.  IMO place should not resize image Print Pixel size has noting to do with the number of pixels you have for you image.   Place should preserve your image quality. Work like Copy Paste,  Drag drop, Duplicate layer do between document.   Preserve the Image Pixels not interpolate the image and lose image quality.    Image quality should be preserved.  If the layer need to be resized because of image content the user has to do that place has no idea of the scale of objects in the different image.   If place was doing a content aware resize  based on the number of pixels similar  recognize object have between documents place resizing may be ok.   Resizing because of document print resolution just degrades the placed image.

Awesome! GibizaoA3 method was correct. It worked ! Thanks

Also the unchecked box (resize image during place) option did not work and neither did place embedded.

Anyone with similar difficulties, follow the last thread (unblock layer, rename, copy paste) I'll mark this answer as correct!

Here's the steps to unblock layer. Follow this link!

    Thanks :-)

Open the image only, them unblock layer, copy, go to document and paste. The image always will paste in this original size.

Your immediate reaction is the right one. It should be bigger, because Photoshop at heart works with pixels only. The two pixel sizes should align neatly, the top one only slightly smaller than the background.

Enter Smart Objects. That's what happens when you drag as opposed to copy/paste. A smart object is a derivative of sorts, it's defined by non-native parameters. In this case the resolution figure and resulting physical print size takes over the calculations. This overrides the native property of pixel size.

It can be done this way because a smart object is embedded in its original form, so that repeated scaling can be done without any ill effects or degradation - the original is always there to go back to.

And then they figured that this is a way to work directly with print dimensions. A nice workaround for some purposes.

Also i always have to drag the image in and it is always smaller. There doesn't seem to be an active import function.

    Hi

Do you get the same result if you try Place Embedded

What is the size of the image you are placing in this large file?
