PhotoCollageToolkit Scripts Hang after Photoshop Update and Roll Back

@JJMack Hope you can help.

I've been using your PCT pack from 2018 on PS2018 and PS2020 for Windows 10 and it's been a great help.  I keep your PCT folder on my desktop and create a shortcut to that folder in the PS presets/scripts folder.   After updating to 23.0.2 yesterday, the scripts no longer completed, seemed like they would hang at the place image step with no error message.  Then I have to close PS from task manager.  So, I took these steps:

  • Uninstalled PS 23.0.2
  • Updated to your PCT pack to the latest from mouseprints.net
  • Installed according to read me instructions(created a new desktop folder and created shortcut to it)

Unfortunately, the PCT scripts still no longer complete on my system.  I tried my hand at debugging with VS Code and Extendscript Debugger, but it was a bit out of my limited skillset.  Any suggestions on what I should try next?  Thank you.

It would help if you identified which Script is hanging on you and you can tell me what setting you used and provide the template file you are using. I can not stated I tested all scripts  with  Photoshop 23.0.2.  I do not have access to a Mac. Are you using a PC or Mac? There are 20 scripts in my package Please provide more information about your issue and environment.  How well is Photoshop version 23.0.2 working on your machine. Many have issues I have seen some strange failures on my Windows 10 PC.   If Photoshop Hangs use the Windows task managers to create dump for the hung Photoshop 23.0.2. The dump may be huge and I have never look  at one. But it may has a clue to what is hanging.   I have not see any of my scripts hang on my windows 10 PC.  If you went back to Photoshop 2020 and my scripts use to work there and now they don't something must be now messed up in your Photoshop 2020 install.  The uninstall of Photoshop 2022 version 23.0.2 may  have messed up the  Photoshop 2020 install.  Contact Adobe see if they will provide you with an 2020 installer  to fix up  you failing 2020. The Creative Cloud Desktop Application will not install Photoshop 2020 since Photoshop 2022 has been released.

I have used some of the Collage, Mockup and PasteIimagsRroll scripts in Photoshop 23.0.2 on my PC without issue.  Photoshop 2021 and 2022  requirement have changes.  Old OS version are not supported.  Some machines need the be upgraded toe a newer CPU and other to a never GPU.  None of My PC can be Upgraded to Windows 11 and Users are having issues using Photoshop one Windows 11.  Adobe Photoshop 2022 version 23 is better then Photoshop 2021 version 22.  However there are many machines that can run Photoshop 2020 version 21 and prior that can not run  Version 22 and 23.

You machine may be incompatible with the newer versions of Photoshop and  it look like your older versions have been broken.

Thanks for your reply @JJMack.

TLDR: The old and new version of BatchOneImageCollage works on a clean install of Photoshop 23.0.2 on another identical laptop, but still does not work on the original machine with only Photoshop 23.0.2, Bridge, and Lightroom installed.

  • I am using a customized BatchOneImageCollage that does not output .psd, just one .jpg with my own template that was created with the template-maker script in PCT
  • Win10 623GB PC Laptop with plentiful resources(32GB RAM, Xeon E3-1535M, 1TB NVMe SSD)
  • Not sure if PS 23.0.2 works well in daily use, as I just upgraded
  • As you anticipated, the dump file is about 5GB, so I downloaded WinDbg as none of the note editors on my laptop can open such a large file - even WinDbg cannot open such a large file.

In the meantime, I had the ability to install Photoshop 23.0.2 as a clean install with only the requisite Bridge app on an identical laptop.  I tried both the old, new, and custom BatchOneImageCollage on this environment and it worked(yay!), albeit it seemed a little slower to complete(6-8 seconds).

I then got the inspiration to delete PS2018 and 2020 from the original machine, and update to PS 23.0.2, while keeping my old version of Lightroom and Bridge.  Still, the scripts hang on the original machine, which is where I need to use PS.  My next step is to backup Lightroom, uninstall all Adobe software, and then reinstall starting with PS 23.0.2.

If you think I should go about this another way, I'm all ears.  Thanks!

Does your  customized BatchOneImageCollage script and your template work on your other machines. You did a clean install on.  If they work on those machine just not on the machine you needed to build I would say the rebuild was not successful.  Is the script and template is good shape on the rebuilt machine. There is a problem somewhere on the rebuilt machine.
