Photoshop 2017 crashing on open in Windows 10

(Originally posted this in the 'Creative Cloud Download & Install' discussion, but was advised by Jeff Wright to post it here instead. Here is my other post: Photoshop 2017 won't open on Windows 10)

I have just downloaded the latest version of Photoshop CC (2017) and it won't even open. It says 'Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 has stopped working'. When I click 'Debug' it says 'An unhandled win32 exception occurred in Photoshop.exe [22540].

I have tried loading it up holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift to delete the settings file (as someone else suggested) but it didn't fix the problem.

Anyone know how I can fix this?

All this talk of Ps crashing and not installing correctly on Windows 10 makes me NOT want to do the upgrade. What about Ai and InDesign, same issues? My concern was migrating presets as in the past I have lost them and have since started making folders with duplicates of brushes, gradients, etc. I also have a couple of plugins for Photoshop. What happened to an update being called 2016 instead of 2015.5? - that now is already called cc2017! Makes me want to wait - seems like Adobe should have also.

Hi everyone

I see I am not alone...

I have already 'lost' two Adobe support operators (one actually bombed out my machine through remote connection...) and the other one just faded without giving me a proper answer...He said "Please wait..." lol, I'm still waiting.

Anyway, I seem to have located the problem (in my specific situation) but don't know how to fix it!

As most of you when I launch Photoshop CC 2017 after the splash screen it just freezes. I thought there was an issue with the display adaptors/drivers since I had a problem with the GPU sniffer in the previous version of Photoshop but this time around it seems to be the dual view setup.

I realised that if I only use the laptop display everything works as normal but as soon as I try working in dual view (I use a USB external AOC e1649Fwu Monitor) Photoshop will just freeze at startup. All drivers are up to date. I tried already most of the tricks (adding the GPU sniffer to the program list etc. etc.) but to no avail.

Any ideas?

have a great weekend everyone

Cheers

Alex... I've been having the same problem with my Microsoft Wireless Video adapter ever since the  previous update and the only (temprary) fix I found was using the "Extend Display" option. When using the "Duplicate Display" the PC just froze to death. Don't know if this could help you, but I hope it does.

Hi M

I'm using the 'extended display' option and that is when it stops working. What blows my mind is the fact that most of the other apps (E.g.: Muse, Illustrator etc. but I haven't tested them all) work perfectly fine!

Again, on my desktop PC with dual view they're all working fine including Photoshop CC 2017 (of course I still experience the occasional crash due to some display driver issues but I can live with that).

It's just Photoshop CC 2017 on my laptop that's the issue. I'm positive it is a conflict between Photoshop - DisplayLink , and of course Windows 10. Since installing the latter not a week goes by without some sort of software issue. What bugs me (excuse the pun) is that it affects Adobe apps and I spend a huge amount of time trying to find solutions rather than being productive.

Hi been on chat for 2 hours with support person installing/altering/uninstalling stuff.  Still not working - I've got now got Photoshop CS5.1 installed - not sure how stable it is, also I've lost all my preferences. His suggestion was that I need to go back to chat and talk to installation experts.  I really regret installing the update.

Have you guys tried resetting the preferences. There might a compatibility issue.

Ctrl k on Windows or cmd k on Mac - bottom of dialog box click reset preferences on next time Photoshop starts.

It seems earlier versions of Photoshop are crashing the same way for me now, too.

I just finished with chat support.  The guy was great.  I let him take over my computer and he had it fixed in a few minutes.  He even re-loaded my actions for me.  This is what he said- I hope it helps you.  If not, I'd consider doing the support chat.

Same here. This is most infuriating! Why does Adobe have to push for a 2017 release prematurely and a seemingly unfinished update? Hate it!

Same problem - Opens to splash screen - then the stop working error - Windows will look for an answer (doesn't find one) only option is to close program.  Where can I click debug?  No idea how to roll back (but on your previous thread some have tried that without success). Help!!!!!

In the Adobe manager, on the apps panel, move down to about the middle. Change the filter to older versions, then you can install any of the other versions listed in the drop-down menu to the right of Photoshop.

While it is certainly possible to install an older version, it would be great if Adobe could figure out a hotfix for this issue asap as a lot of people seem to be experiencing it.
