Photoshop 2019 not using resources

Hi folks,

I started having personal problems with lagginess of new photoshop on OSX Mojave, currently using 10.14.1 version.

Noticed it the most today, while making a panorama. It was using only 1/8th of CPU and around 3GB of RAM
I have MacBook pro retina mid 2014 with

16GB RAM

Intel i7 5870HQ with iris pro 1536 and NVIDIA 750M

Nvidia also is not recognized for GPU acceleration, so it uses only inter graphics card

In comparison lightroom works well, utilizing whole resources no problem. I tried tweaking settings, allowed all RAM for PS, but nothing helped. General symptoms are laggy zoom and brushes of all kinds, slow processes.

I know that many people probably wrote here, but I did not find any solution yet. Do you have any ideas?

Does OSX have something like Windows' Resource Monitor. Photoshop is known for being 'lightly threaded', so it might be that Photo Merge was using 100% of two threads, and bugger all of the other cores/threads. If you looked at overall CPU usage, that would show as under utilising your hardware.

The GPU is also less than straight forward regards the way Photoshop uses it. It might be using the GPU for real time preview with functions like Liquify and Healing Brush, but then resort to the CPU after you hit OK. Note I don't know exactly how what functions work, but I have a feeling what I said about Liquify and Healing brush is right.

To get a better idea on what to expect from your hardware, a good trawl through the Puget Systems articles on Photoshop might help, but you'd have to go back a way (they are very prolific with their output).

We really miss the input we used to get from Chris Cox on this forum. Noel Carboni is working for Adobe now, and is a big fan of utilising the computing power of the GPU for his Pro Digital Software titles. Noel will be super busy right now just two months into his new job, and with his move to the Arctic Minnesota, so it would not be fair to ask for his input on this, but it would great to hear from him when has settled in some more (hint hint Noel ).
