Photoshop 2020 Hangs while Blending Layers

Question

My computer is consistenly hanging on trying to apply blending options to layers. Tested it out on a new document (photoshop defaults) and added some text. Adding any outer glow effects causes photoshop to hang up. Doesn't matter if live preview is on or not.

Using a Macbook Pro 2019 with Mojave 10.14.6.

Any help would be appreciated as this is getting frustrating.

Hello, Photoshop 22, that has just been released today, does have a fix for blend if crashes, as seen in its fixed issues list https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html#photoshop-desktop-fixed-issues

I recommend to install it while keeping the older version installed, as explained in: https://helpx.adobe.com/be_en/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

If you are not seeing it, go to help>check for updates in your CC application.

It is better than using the legacy compositing workaround.

It's working OK here on Windows 10.I would try a preference reset , as the update does not overwrite preferences and any corruption will be carried forward into the updated version.If that does not help, try checking "Legacy Compositing" in Preferences Performance - then restart.If that also does not work uncheck " Use Graphics Processor " in preferences performance and restart. If that resolves it - update the GPU drivers and recheck "Use Graphics Processor " and try againDave
