Photoshop 2020 sloooooww

Question

Hi, ever since Photoshop was updated to 2020, it is terribly slow. Click on an Action, the rainbow beachball appears and I have to wait. Open a file, the beachball appears..... it is constantly appearing and the program takes forever to do simple things. I've been using Photoshop for over 20 years, and this is the most bogged-down version I've ever seen.

I'm on a Macbook Air with 55 GB free space available. OS is High Sierra version 10.13.6. No other applications running.

Hi Vicky,

Sorry that Photoshop 2020 is freezing unexpectedly on your Mac running OS 10.13.6.

Could you please turn on the Legacy Compositing option in Performance preferences?
Choose Photoshop > Preferences > Performance (macOS). Select Legacy Compositing. Quit and relaunch Photoshop.
