Photoshop 2021 Not Allowing Me to Highlight Text in Older Files

Hi,

I just downloaded Photoshop 2021 and I am now not able to highlight text in file that were made in older versions of Photoshop (2020 files work but anything older does not). I am able to open the file and select the text tool but then I am not able to highlight any of the text. If I double click into the text area nothing appears to happen or show up BUT if I start typing new text will start showing up in a random place in my existing text. This is a huge problem as my company has a ton of files that we are activly using from older versions of Photoshop. Note: That I did research this problem and tried to change my settings to "Legacy Compositing" (which no longer existing in 2021)  and I have tried turning off "Use Graphics Processor". Neither worked. Help please!
