Photoshop 2021: unable to open any images

Since Photoshop auto-updated I can't load *.psd files, I can't load image files of any description really, I can't .... well do anything really. It's just the grey background screen and an error message "no pixels are selected".

Photoshop is now totally useless.

It's ok, I sorted it ... by removing all of Creative Suite, cancelling my account, burning my laptop, re-building my laptop, re-signing up to Creative Suite, paying more money and then finally re-downloading and re-installing PS.

Thank you for your repsonses guys. Nice to know there is an active community here.
