Photoshop 2024 Freezes upon Photo Load

Hello!  Using up to date Photoshop 2024.  All of a sudden it froze on me when trying to load a photo.  I had to end task to close it.  Since then I cannot load a photo without it freezing.  I can start photoshop, access all the menus etc....but when I try to load a photo..it freezes.  I uninstalled it and reinstalled it.  It worked for a a few photos and then froze again.   I checked my GPU compatabilty...all good (using a Dell XPS 15). I unticked "use graphics processor" under performance in case that was an issue...no change.   Does anyone have any suggestions?  Thank you!
