Photoshop 21.2.0 on MacOS Catalina performance issues

I am curently running both the latest version of Photoshop and MacOS and am experiencing lag between even simple tasks like Content Aware Fill on a small area of a 72 dpi image where the program hangs and the MacOS wheel spins for a few seconds. It's honestly ridiculous and has been going on for awhile (I have seen others report the same issue for awhile now).

I have read fixes like resetting the preferences, and while that works for awhile, it's not a permanent solution as Photoshop starts lagging again over time.

Are there any permenent solutions for this? Thank you!
