Photoshop 22.2 (& Lightroom Classic) keep freezing & crashing the whole computer on macOS BigSur

Hi,

For the last couple days I've been having issues operating both Lightroom and Photoshop and for the life of me, I can't figure out which program is causing the most problems. I've been transferring 1-2 files at a time into Photoshop to retouch, then saving them back into the Lightroom catalog. Several times a day, Photoshop will completely freeze out of the blue, Lightroom will then freeze as well, followed by my entire computer. The computer will then crash and restart, but all of the programs will still be semi-open and not responding upon restarting. Is this related to the Big Sur update? The new Photoshop 22.2 update released today does not seem to have fixed this problem as my computer has already crashed twice on me this morning. I'm wondering if there's a way to fix this, or if we're waiting on an update patch to fix more crash issues. Is there an ETA for a fix?

Thanks!

Thank you for your help! Disabling the graphics processor alone did not work, but things seemed to be operating better after I reset the preferences for both Lightroom and Photoshop. There's been a few weird things but nothing that disrupts my workflow too much, and the apps are no longer crashing my computer.

I've found that uninstalling and re installing the applications often help, and you can also try to Reset Preferences On Quit.

Hi,

We're sorry about the trouble with the apps. Please try disabling the option to Use graphics processor from both Photoshop & Lightroom by going to the preferences for both apps, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch the apps to check if it helps.

If the issue persists, you can try resetting the preferences of the apps. For Photoshop you can check out the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2Qzc0K3

Please backup your settings prior to resetting the preferences. You can check: https://adobe.ly/2vNz6FG

For Lightroom, you can check the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2JSym5e

Please backup your presets prior to resetting the preferences.

Let us know how it goes!

Regards,

Nikunj
