Unable to save a CR2 image as JPEG after cropping. If I crop in Camera RAW and open in PS I can save as JPEG/

If the file format cannot support the items in your file then the file format (jpeg in this case) is moved to Save a Copy. Those items could include layers, a higher bit depth than supported in the file format. In this case you mention using crop. It is likely that you have cropped in Photoshop with "Delete Cropped Pixels" unchecked. That means that there are additional undisplayed pixels stored in your image. They can be saved and retrieved later using PSD TIFF etc but not in jpeg. That is why you would need to Save a Copy to use jpeg.

    I am cropping a CR2 file and saving the cropped image to a JPG. I would not expect the cropped pixels to copy to the JPG file. The cropped pixels are still in the CR2 file so they do not need to copy. This has always worked with previous versions.

    You can choose whether to delete cropped pixels in the options bar when cropping.

    The changes to move file formats that do not support the content of the file to "Save a Copy" were made in v22.4 this week. The change was driven by changes in the Mac Operating System, but also prevents users from inadvertently losing layers etc.

      Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?

      What are the Crop Tool settings? 

       

      Jpg cannot contain Layers (except one Background Layer) so if one wants to save a jpg-copy off of such an image one has to use »Save a Copy« (cmd-alt-S) or click it in teh »Save as«-dialog.

      I've found another post that says the solution, if you can call it that, is to use save as copy. This would make sense if you were editing a JPG and saving as a JPG, but when the file you are editing is CR2 it doesn't make a lot of sense.

      Is there an actual Background Layer and nothing else in the Layers Panel? 

      Could you please post screenshots with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Options Bar, …) visible?
