Photoshop 23.1.1 Saving Flattened Image Not Updating Thumbnail

Hello,

I updated to Photoshop 23.1.1 this morning and discovered after working on a psd file which included adding an overlay, text, cropping, flattening and saving, that the file retained the original image on my desktop as a thumbnail. I thought my work was lost, but upon opening the file, the new finished file is there. It's confusing to see the old file as a thumbnail when I'm looking for the new one which doesn't 'seem' to be there. Is this a bug?

Thank you.

Look at your file in Adobe Bridge, is it updated there?

Hi,

Thanks for reaching out, we are here to help! Could you please share the exact version of macOS on your computer? Does this happen with recently created documents only or other documents also appear to behave similarly? Do you have Cloud services (iCloud, Dropbox etc.) enabled for backup/sync on your computer?

Thumbnails are generated by the default file manager of your computer’s operating system.

  • Finder on Mac and File Explorer on Windows.

Please try the following step to relaunch the Finder app.

  • Option+ Right Click Finder in the Dock > Relaunch

Let us know if this helps you out!

Regards,

Sameer K.

Thank you Sameer and Melissa,

I kept opening and saving the psd file to see to see if it would update and it wouldn't, so I tried  saving it as a jpg and it worked fine.  I did try restarting my computer and still there was no update to that file. After trying a few other files as psd, they seemed to work fine, so I trashed the one I was having trouble with and stuck with the jpg. I am using MacOS Monterey 12.1 which had been updated the day before.   I don't use ICloud and although I use Dropbox, it's not on my computer. (Where would the enabling option be located?)

So far, it seems to be okay again, but I relaunched Finder as you recommended anyways.  Hopefully, it was a onetime glitch between the new operating system update and the new Photoshop update.

Thanks very much for your replies and assistance!
