Question

Photoshop 24.x and 25.x version

Hi all,

Since I joined the Photoshop cc plan, I have 3 versions of PhotoShop installed: 25.x, 24.x and the beta version. I usually work with the 25.x version because I believe it is the most updated one.

However, whenever I click to open a PhotoShop working file which was created by 25.x version, it is opened with the 24.x version. After that, I cannot open the 25.x version again. I need to restart my computer and open the 25.x version before opening the working file. It's a bit annoying.

May I know why?

Why we need to keep both versions?

Can I uninstall the 24.x version to avoid the problem?

p.s. I am a Windows 11 user.

No, there's no need to keep both versions.

If you're happy with the 25.x version you can deinstall the older 24.x version.

After you deinstall the old version you should reinstall the current version to rebuild the corresponding assignments to the file extensions.

But...

... if you install an update for the Betaversion of Photoshop the assignments to the file extension changed to the Betaversion.

Dear AxelMatt,

Thanks for your reply!

May I know why I need to reinstall the current version (25.x?) after uninstalled the the old version (24.x?)?

Do you mean I cannot only uninstall the old version?

During the uninstalling the old version the settings, for example the appropriate assignments for the file extension, wasn't automatically changed to the new version.

It's recommend to reinstall the current version after deinstalling the old version. Only in this case you can be sure that all settings were set to the current version.
