Photoshop 25.3.1 very laggy. Almost unusable

I'm using the current version of PS. Over the last few days, it's become very laggy. For example, when I use the spot healing took on skin, I paint the area I want healed. The painting process as I paint is very laggy. Then theres a pause before the final result. If I select 7 or 8 areas and quickly select them with the tool, it can take up to 10 seconds for the process to catch up.

Also, then I open any raw file (CR2 or CR3 file) Its first displayed as a group of tiles until I click on the image (see example).

I've followed pretty much every tutorial and explantion I can find.

Try resetting the tools and/or preferences.
To restore preferences quickly using a keyboard shortcut:

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop. You are prompted to delete the current settings. The new preferences files are created the next time you start Photoshop.
Note: Using the keyboard shortcut, preference files for custom shortcuts, workspaces, and color settings will also be reset to default.

Fantastic. Thank you for that. It appears to be a lot faster now.

Any idea what would cause the corruption to slow it down to that extent?

Having too many loaded brushes, presets, and actions can slow down Photoshop.
