Photoshop 27.4.0: Object Selection & Remove Tool Completely Broken

Hi! After the latest Photoshop update, many tools suddenly stopped working for me. I'm currently using version 27.4.0. on Windows 11.

Specifically, I'm experiencing these bugs:

  • The Object Selection Tool is not working at all. When I try to select something, I get the error: "Could not use the Object Selection Tool because the Select Subject Classifier model is not loaded correctly." The tool also fails to automatically detect people in the image.

  • The Remove Tool is not working. When generative AI is turned off for this tool, it just draws a graphical glitch. When AI is turned on, it throws the error: "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

Troubleshooting steps I've already tried:

  • Updated my graphics card drivers to the latest NVIDIA Studio Driver 591.74.

  • Reset Photoshop preferences (deleted the entire "Adobe Photoshop 2026 Settings" folder).

  • Changed the Image Processing settings in Preferences from "Faster" to "More Stable".

  • Deleted the entire "UXP" folder.

  • Completely reinstalled Photoshop.

None of this helped; the bugs are still present.

Other interesting notes:

  • These tools are also broken in the current Photoshop Beta version.

  • The previous version, Photoshop 2025 (26.11.3), works perfectly fine.

This is very frustrating, please help!

Hey, @Antonín Mika & @kind_video5C58. Welcome to the Photoshop Community. I’ll help you figure this out.

One of the issues you’ve mentioned is already being tracked and the steps I’ve shared there may also help with the Object Selection issue you’ve shared:

Please let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hi! Thanks a lot for the link. I tried your steps, but unfortunately, no change. Both tools are still just as broken.

Hi, I’m sure it’s a bugs in a latest version of photoshop. Exactly same symptoms on my laptop. To solve it I opened creative cloud and installed previos version of photoshop by clicking three dots drop down menu. No issues in previous version, generative ai removal tool works, object selection tool works.

Hi, thanks for the reply! I rolled back to version 27.3.1 following your instructions and everything works again, thanks! Let's hope Adobe releases a fix soon.

Update: I also tried deleting the "Creative Cloud Libraries" folder, running Photoshop as an administrator, and restarting my computer, but the issue persists.

@clementr10229786 you mention that you tried numerous things but failed to mention what you tried, have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Photoshop from the CC app and selecting to remove the PS preferences

Select Subject Classifer Model not loaded correctly.

J’ai essayé de nombreuses choses que j’ai pu lire sur le net mais cela ne résout pas le problème!?
    Est-ce que quelqu’un pourrait m’aider?
