Question

Photoshop 7 Install on iMac I5

I am using a old backup copy from my original disk. Anway, this version is for a Power PC, not the new Intel system that Apple has now. Thus I can not install because El Capitan doesn't know what to do and I've been told it should work. I'm 74 and retired from graphics, print business. I just wanted to use it to fix digital pictures I've made over the past several years. HELP. Jerry

Photoshop CS3 was the first version to work on Intel processors. A computer with an i5 chip should run at least High Sierra and then you can install the current CC versions which require a monthly subscription.

Alternately, you can try to find an old G5 Mac that will run Photoshop 7 but that will be WAY (14 years) out of date.

I finally read the text file on installation and this is my PC version. Still looking for my Mac version, but I may go with Affinity for $49 and it will do what i need it for. Color correction and resizing resolution. Thanks

Your Imac with El Capitan has an Intel Processor, so photoshop 7 from 2002, which was made to work with macs made with PowerPC processors will not work.

Your choices from adobe are to subscribe to the Creative Cloud Photography Plan that includes Photoshop and Lightroom for around $10 a month or buy photoshop elements 2020, which is a consumer version of photoshop without as many features, which may do what you want for around $100.

Regardless of your choice, you will need to upgrade your mac to a more recent operating system, such as Mojave or Catalina in order to run any new adobe applications.

There are also many other photo editors by other companies if you are unable to do the above.
