Question

Photoshop Adjustment Layers to Mimic Camera Raw Filter

Seeking help with a work process ~ I like the camera raw filter but it only allow me to apply to a layer of image. I use smart object so that I can go back to edit. Then later as I add more retouches and paint stroke using layers I then have to merge all of them into another merged layer in order to use the camera raw filter again. The problem is -- then when I change something I have to redo, remerge etc. I thought of using layers, but layer adjustment is limited to those separated adjustments as you know, and just different from camera raw filter. Here for sample, I like to create a hyper filmic look to enhance my drawing; and I don't want to merge all layers again to use the camera raw filter. Can you please help me? I am open to your best advice and suggestions! thank you a lot

You know you can edit the same Camera RAW filter settings if applied to a Smart Object?

Have a look at the knew Adjustments Presets.  We can now build our own series of adjustment layers and combine them as a preset.

A good few years ago, Michael Ninness put up one of my all time favourite videos from MAX around 2014.  It was called something like Photoshop Power Shortcuts, and I found it a bit of a game changer.  Unfortunately, later updates put some of the video in error, so Adobe took it down.  I still use a lot of the shortcuts from the video though.

One of the more powerful tips in the video was making presets in Camera RAW, and applying them rather like the new Adjustments presets.  I think you can still do something like in ACR, but not quite the same.

BTW  Michael's video has gone, but there are several similar videos from Paul Trani, and Paul is every bit as good as Michael, and almost as manic!
