Photoshop and Illustrator acting up

All of a sudden my photoshop and Illustrator are acting up. The artboards will slowly and continuously move to the left by themselves and I can drag them back to center but they just keep moving. If I open a new doc or try to resize anything and try to fill in specs, the numbers go crazy. If I hold alt key, everything starts zooming out.... All sorts of things. I've tried restarting PS while resetting presets. Worked for a while in PS but not at all in AI. I'm running CC 2017 on 10.11 OS...I know it's old, but it won't allow me to update. Is there anything I can do short of buying a whole new computer??

This is strange. Here are a few thoughts that you didn't mention trying:

  • To move an artboard (Illustrator) or canvas (PS), you pan with the Hand tool.
The shortcuts are H or Spacebar. See if either key has gotten stuck.
  • Try another keyboard.
  • Can you clarify "the numbers go crazy"? What units are you using?
Sometimes we hear from users who are in inches and think they are in pixels, for instance.
  • Cmd+Opt+Spacebar is a shortcut for zooming out. So is Option with Z. See if any keys are stuck.
  • If you haven't rebooted lately, try that.
  • Reboot in Safe Mode.

  • What is running in Startup?
System Preferences > Users & Groups > your account > Login items.

  • Check for malware and viruses. You can install a trial version of Malwarebytes or BitDefender.

Also: don't uninstall, thinking you can reinstall. CC2017 is no longer available for download.

Wow! The safe mode seems to have fixed it for now!!!

For others' reference...

No it wasn't a stuck keyboard. The artboards would move around whenever the cursor was within the PS/AI windows. It would stop moving if I made a command like save or close.

The numbers thing is not a units issue. For example, if I opened a new doc or wanted to resize something, the text box would auto-highlight and start changing the numbers highlighted all on it's own and I couldn't get in there to type.

I rebooted several times, even resetting the preferences.

On startup I have only 2 things, plus our server. However, Spotify and TeamViewer always startup at Login even though I've tried to change that.

Thanks for the help!!!!!

You're welcome, @Dori5CC4

I was throwing out all the possibilities I could think of, and I'm glad one of them worked for you !
