Photoshop and Lightroom don't open one .CR2 file but even Windows Photos app can read it.

How is it possible that Adobe software does not recognise the photo???

This is a link to the file as it came out of the camera: https://erikverheggen.stackstorage.com/s/DGXql8qx9lt5HKN

If it's just this one file it's very likely corrupt.

That can happen anywhere in the hardware chain: card, card reader, USB cable, all the way up to RAM or HD.

How is it possible that you don’t bother to mention the camera model and the versions of Photoshop/ACR and Lightroom you use?

Accordning to this list

Cameras supported by Camera Raw

5DS should indeed be supported, so your surprise seems justified.

How did you transfer the file (copied directly with a card reader or using some specialised software)?
