Question

Photoshop autoselects Property panels instead of Adjustments

Hey guys, does anyone know how to fix this? For some reason my photoshop started automatically selecting the "Properties" panel tab instead of "Adjustments." Usually after merging layers etc, the adjustments panel would be open and ready to use. For some reason now, the properties panel, which I never use opens by default, so during an editing session, I need to manually click "Adjustments" to exit out of it when I make new layer adjustments. Is there a way to have adjustments open by default? I think it used to be this way, but for some reason it changed.

This looks perfectly normal to me. You have a single pixel layer, and the Properties panel shows you exactly that.

The adjustments panel is simply where you pick a type of adjustment layer. Once you have an adjustment layer (which you don't), you set the actual parameters of the adjustment in the Properties panel.

In any case, you don't need to have these three panels grouped like you have. If you want to have Adjustments always visible, just drag it out of the group and place it elsewhere. Panels are infinitely customizable, there's no reason to keep the default layout if it doesn't meet your needs.

When you make an adjustment layer, the Properties panel should open automatically because this is where you make the adjustments. Yours is not doing this, and we can't tell from your screenshot if it happened immediately or after another action on your part.

What happens when you double-click the icon in the Brightness/Contrast layer? That should bring you to the correct screen.

I'm confused that you only have one layer and it's an adjustment layer. Brightness/Contrast works on an underlying layer, but you don't have one.
