Question

Photoshop Beta brakes things

I reluctantly do updates due to the well-known instability issue of dare I say all Adobe products, or maybe it's just the 7 I use...

To the point. I felt adventurous and decided to update Photoshop Beta. No really, I had no plan of checking out what’s new. I have Photoshop 24.1.0 for when I need to do actual work with less crashes. The Beta update ended with it automatically, without my consent, also updating Camera Raw. Now, because of that I am unable to use batch processing in Bridge 13.0.4.755, because it won’t show my 24.1.0 Photoshop under the Tools menu. Because most of the time something doesn't work in one version or another of Adobes’ software, I have two installed of most of them. In this case I have two Bridge versions with the older version being intact (update only goes for the latest version), which still connects to Photoshop. But when I open RAW files in the older Bridge, it says that this file has been edited in a newer version of ACR and will discard any changes made with any of the new tools, but at least I have batch processing. Unfortunately, I don’t know which ACR version I had in the Bridge that was messed up, because I was not planning on updating it. I uninstalled Photoshop Beta, but naturally that didn’t fix anything. I found ACR 14.5 on Adobes’ website, but that still doesn’t connect my 13.0.4.755 Bridge to Photoshop. It has gotten so convoluted that I guess the only option is now to update Photoshop itself as dreadful that might sound. I have version 24.1.0 and it has been rather stable, but nowhere near as Photoshop used to be.

I suppose no one will really have a solution for my case which is rooted in the fact that Adobe is the definition of crashes and I’m constantly switching between two versions of the same software. Adobe – can you stop adding new features and just fix what’s not working in the existing ones? If this was a tangible product, every other day I would have to take it to warranty, but here, I have no one to call and ask for assistance, just random people on the web trying to help. This took way too much time out of my work hours to even write, not even talking about still trying to fix the issue. It’s really sad that Adobe’s corporate mentality is on a different planet.

Hi @Janis231887807ng7 unfortunately this is the risk when testing beta software on the same machine as your production instance.

I would recommened upgrading to 24.7 at least to try to resolve some of these issues, but you basically have 2024 Photoshop overwriting your 2023 resources.

So you've started resolving by uninstalling the beta completely.

Next - reinstall April 2023 Camera Raw 15.3.

Then go to Bridge>Settings>File Type Associations and reconnect your older Photoshop instance.

You can filter by application at the top.

Beta versions are for testing purposes.

It's always best to keep the two most recent (full) versions of an application is case you have issues with the new version. Most of us don't seem to have the crashing issues you seem to have. Have you tried resetting the Photoshop preferences?

It might also be worth considering using the Adobe Cleaner Tool to uninstall all versions and install clean version. Maybe also check for hardware.
