Original photoshop met most needs very well. Lost it during numerous windows 10 "upgrades" ,  Can't recall Adobe offering any updates to me at all. Only option to reactivate lost account was the creative cloud. Found CC to be a mishmash of unusable apps  and overly technical app instructional videos.  Wasted far too many hours  attempting to edit a simple photo.  After three attempts had to give up.  Spare me the complimentary CC offer after terminating the agreement!   - Will follow up on some of the suggestions submitted by others. Don't mind paying good money for something that actually works!

Two ideas that MAY work to install and/or run old programs in Windows 10

-RIGHT click the program icon or EXE and select a compatibility mode in the pop up option window

-or Run as Administrator http://forums.adobe.com/thread/969395 to assign FULL Windows permissions may help... says Encore, but sometimes required for ALL Adobe programs (this is NOT the same as using an Administrator account)

But, the above doesn't work for all old programs... you don't mention your version, so may not help

thanks for reply. no expert on these matters, so doubt I'd manage to follow up on your suggestions. just wondered what was so bad about the comment that it was rejected. Original photoshop met most needs very well. So did Movavi. Both were arbitrarily deleted during MS updates.Cloud apps are just too complicated. Interactive instructional videos might be a better idea, instead of watching a pro moving the arrow all over the place. watched a few of those vids several times. Just doesn't work for me.

You should be able to install your perpetual version of Photoshop using your Installation media and serial number. Old version  CS2 and CS3 need new installer downloads.  If you can not activate you Perpetual Photoshop Version you may require assistance from Adobe Customer support. However, if you did not format your disk you activation cridentuals should still be one your Disk....

IMO if you have a  perpetual  Phptoshop version CS3 or older you may be better off using a new version of  Photoshop Elements it cost less than 100USD.
