My brush tool reverts to smudge tool when I use concept brushes or any brush that isn't a standard round . Does anyone have a fix please.

I'm working with a mouse.    iMac -Ventura 13.4.1   Photoshop CC 2023

Thanks

You're welcome @christinem42037195 . Yes, the person who creates the brushes gets to decide to assign a tool — or not — and many of Kyle's brushes have tools assigned. It's easy to work around it, though, Command + click when choosing a brush assigned to a tool. Or create a duplicate that is not assigned to a tool. Watch for that icon in the upper right corner.

I've moved your post from Using the Community (for questions about the forums) to Photoshop for you.

Brushes can be assigned to a tool by their creator. To use your current tool with the preferred brush, hold down Command as you select the brush.

You will see a small picture of the assigned tool in the upper right hand corner of the brush. You can also right-click the brush and create a new brush based on that brush. When you do, you can assign a new tool or leave the tool area blank so the brush works with any tool.

Hi Jane,

Thanks for moving the post and the reply. As you can tell I'm new on forum! I'm not new to photoshop (16+ years)

While I was trying your suggestion I noticed that this only happens with a certain set of brushes. Some of the the Kyle brushes which I've had for years. There's one brush that I really like, but I think I"ll just work around the problem, I'll try reinstalling them or  use other brushes.

Many Thanks

Christine
