Photoshop brush update - disaster!

This is shameful!

Why!? Why and why would Adobe do something so stupid and unprofessional?! Among other unnecessary changes I see this one as most hideous one!

If I select "eraser tool" for example and I would like to change brush from present to some other in a "brush picker" it automatically changes to another tool!? Why!?

Now it is apparently saved preset for other tool and it can be used only with that tool?! You now try to determine to us which brush we can use with specific tool?

So from now on from bunch of different brushes I can use 10 or 12 brushes for eraser tool? What was the logic with this hideous change?

Please don't update software just to release updates because that way you are destroying our workflow!

Does someone know some workaround to fix this stupidity?

Thank you!

Hey, just want to bump this up. There's a lot of hyperbole and (understandable) frustration in OP's post but I understand where they're coming from. It feels un-intuitive to create a function that makes brush selection more limiting (even if there's a keystroke workaround with Command+Option; anyone who uses PS frequently to paint as a full-time job, and has done so for years or decades, will know how much this can slow down one's workflow when one has to change brushes roughly once every 1-2 seconds.) And currently, there is no way to turn off this feature for one's existing brush presets (again, for a person using them professionally, there may be hundreds).

While it may be beneficial for some, this feature should have included an easy way to turn it off altogether (or at the very least a setting that can be changed for existing brushes along with their shape dynamics etc, preferably one that can be applied to batches of brush presets at the same time so that they do not have to be re-defined one by one as they do now). I've started a thread on this on the feedback site suggesting this not as a problem to troubleshoot but as a feature that needs adding: Toggle "Include Tool Settings" on Existing Brush Presets | Photoshop Family Customer Community

@billzilla , please moderate your tone.

Why are you posting on a thread from 2019 anyway?

Unless you have some meaningful data (like a survey with a significant number of participants) it does not seem »safe to say most people also hate it«.

For some people the feature may even be useful, for example for creating a »kind-of« set of crayons with saved colors for illustration.

So, Sydlys, any updates from your side?

Among other unnecessary changes

Which other changes were you referring to and which Photoshop version was your frame of reference?

Sydlys  It's the nature of things that improvements to any app are likely to need us to learn new workflow.  The new brush management is a big improvement, but _definitely_ requires that we spend a bit of time to learn it.

There is a long thread here (which incidentally dates back to 2017, so it seems you took your time recognising the changes

Re: Changing the brush without changing the tool

And this video from Julianne Kost will help

If you could only take one thing from this, then it might be that holding down Ctrl (Cmd) while selecting a new preset, will let you do so without changing tools.

If you have specific issues, then we are glad to help.

Good luck.

You now try to determine to us which brush we can use with specific tool?

No one is forcing you to »Include Tool Settings« when creating new Brushes and if you decide to use Brushes that were created thusly that is your decision.

Edit: To be able to tell which ones are which kind check »Show Additional Preset Info« in the Brushes Panel’s flyout menu.

Please don't update software just to release updates because that way you are destroying our workflow!

This is a user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.

If you think about it you might recognise some value in the new options; now instead of selecting a painterly Tool and then a Brush-tip for it one could now select the brush-tip and Tool in one click.

It may not be useful to you personally but you have to assume that not all Photoshop users have the same needs and priorities.

If you don’t feel like reading up on the changes in a new release you may at least try to contain your unqualified complaints.

If you want to use a Brush for another Tool than specified in its specifically stored Tool Settings cmd-alt-click it.
