We have a big problem with Photoshop in our companies server (windows) environment as it does not allow to overwrite files that has just been created. It says it's unable to safe file and creates new files with weird number-naming but without file specifications. are there any errors like this known and bug fixes available?

We have seen this issue on our servers as well.  The issues are with Windows Servers and Mac computers.   On the Windows server is software that allows Mac's to use the file system.  This software is sometimes not wonderful.   Some suggestions when this occurs:

1.) Connect using afp   (When this happened to me I was using a smb connection and switched to afp and those problems dropped dramatically.

2.) Sometimes the Windows / Mac connection gets messed up and it's the Mac's fault.  Just restart and re-mount the server and continue to work normally.

3.) There are still teltale issues when saving files and I get an error during saving.  Bridge shows the files saved but the name includes Adobe Photoshop and lot's of numbers.   Same solution as #2 above for that as well

Thank you Bob,

I'll try the afp/smb solution on monday.
The restart and re-mount will not solve the problem as that's what I'm doing frequently during every day and week.

Hi @waserich

You didn't say your method. Are you:

  • saving to the hard drive and copying to the server
    or
  • saving directly to the server?

From Adobe Help:

When you save and open files across a network or from removable media, many variables affect application performance. Therefore, some problems occur more frequently when you work across a network or from removable media than from a local hard disk. (Network-related problems include damaged files, denied access, or slow performance.) In these situations, Photoshop can return one of the following error messages:

  • "Could not complete this operation because this file is in an unknown format."
  • "Could not complete the request because the file is locked."
  • "Could not save because of a disk error."

Details here:

Please clarify if it's something else.

Hi Jane,

the problem occurs while saving directly on the server. Sure I could save on my hard disc and overwrite on the server afterwards via OSX Finder, but that's not what I'm payed for or my company is paying Adobe...

kind regards
