Photoshop CC 2019: Brush Lag

This week, I downloaded the new version of Photoshop (Photoshop CC 2019), and started using it in place of Photoshop CC 2018. I have a Macbook Pro (mid-2012), and use Photoshop to make illustrations. I have noticed since I started working with it that when I attempt to start drawing with my tablet (Wacom Intuos, new drivers installed and everything), sometimes the marks will not appear until long seconds later. In fact, the more strokes I draw, the longer it takes for them to appear—sometimes, they will not even appear at all. Other times, when I draw in a new spot on the canvas, a huge line appears from the last place I had drawn from (even though that stroke also did not appear).

The performance settings I have set on this new version are identical to the performance settings I had placed for Photoshop CC 2018. I do not know if any external factors have to do with it (such as the age of my computer, downloading the latest Mac OS (Mojave) or otherwise), but when I was searching around online, I noticed that other users with newer specs than me are having the same issue.

For now, I returned to using Photoshop CC 2018, because I do not deal with the intense lag while using it. While I had issues with brush lag in the past, it has never been unresolvable (downloading new drivers, adjusting my performance settings, turning off other running applications, etc).

Because I use Photoshop so much for my work, I am concerned knowing that I am unable to switch to the newer version unless I can draw without lag. It messes up my drawing process quite a bit.

I hope someone can help me out and that I can help others having the same issue, if I get some answers. Thank you for your time.

Best,
Rai

I had the same problem on my iMac (27-inch, late 2012) using macOS High Sierra.

I tried out

The solution to the problem for me was to go to System Preferences/Display Settings and click Default for Display.

Turns out I had the scale cranked to maximum so I could read the teeny tiny menus on my 4K monitor. The small amounts of smoothing that some Photoshop brushes applies to brushstrokes were amplified.

brush lag cc 2019  this post solved my brush lag issues. Resetting the tool and the General preferences "Reset preferences on quit" did the trick. No more lag. Thank you. Ged Traynor. The answer in this post did nothing. Don't understand why it is marked. Correct Answer.

General Preferences > Resetting on Quit (save your workspace first!!!) seems to have fixed the issue. As does turning off rulers.

My test was basic: 72 DPI 8x11document, attempt quick cross hatching. Works in CC2018, in CC2019 instead of lines I only get dots where the lines should start. After Reset, response is much better(still feels off) unless you try and use rulers.

How many users experiencing wacom lag are using nVidia graphics cards? My desktop has a Nvidia GTX 980 Ti and suffers the above symptoms. My 2016 MacBook Pro does not.

i was experiencing extreme lag on imac and hiding rulers took it away. haven't experimented much but i was just trying to paint on 200x200px file. ridiculously small.

I have the same problem with Photoshop 20.0.1 and Mac mid 2016 mojave 10.14.1. I don't know if its the OS or Photoshop, but lagging is killing me right now. And this issue is NOT solved.

Can someone unmark that "correct" answer?
It's neither correct, nor helpful.

I also have this problem.

It also has effected the Lasso performance, in that I cannot see the lasso path until I finish the shape.

Again, there is NO lag when I use CC2018.

Sadly, this is based off of rushing to get a "Update" for the subscription model Adobe has developed to keep the cost "Justifiable". Had major issues with Illustrator as well.

OK. After some more work I tried doing in CC 2019, I've noticed the weird graphical artifacts again (no real lag though).
So I guess, no, this is still not fixed.
Back to CC 2018 version for me, then.

Same here.

Everything is running fine using PS 2018 but as soon as I use the 2019 version there are lots of lags.

Most worse: the brush lags. If I do several strokes on my tablet I can watch the protocol window in PS 2019 beeing filled with lots of brush-strokes I did seconds before. I tried the "old composing" setting within PS 2019 but this makes no difference.

Another one: saving a 5MB JPG takes several seconds seconds. WTF? And the healing-brush is working much slower compared to PS 2018.

If everything is fine and fast within PS 2018 and slow in 2019 on the same machine I'm not touching any computer- or tablet setting here. It's definitely a CC 2019 issue, nothing different. Hey Adobe: get your homework done!

And, by the way: Bride 2019 is slower than the last version, too.

Edit:
According to Photoshop CC 2019: Healing brush & clone stamp tools lagging | Photoshop Family Customer Community  I've enabled  the PhotoshopForceLegacyPaintMode  - but not all lags had gone afterwards. But as soon as I disabled showing the rulers, the brush tool is usable again.
This is a workaround but I still think that Adobe has to provide a fix here (hiding the rulers is not a good option)...
But: This workaround doesn't result in a performance enhancement for the healing-brush tool, no enhancement to the saving-speed issue (which I didn't expect) so actually I went back to CC 2018 :-(

It seems, that it's better now, after the latest Photoshop update from Adobe.
No more weird lag, no more strange artifacts appearing, while drawing. We'll see how this holds up, but it seems OK for now.

So I would suggest everyone to apply the latest updates to Photoshop, Windows, drivers, ect.

PC here and I get what looks like squares (various sizes depending on brush) missing from my brushstrokes until I finish the stroke and lift the pen. Happens all the time.

Ok, thanks for that info.

Conclusion: Major Adobe CC 2019 problem so, and not only Macs and the drivers there affected.

Me too.

So disappointed, i'm using macbook pro 2018 15inch. At the first time, it didn't lag at all but now it does. I don't know why, i think i'll keep using 2018 version.
