Photoshop CC 2020 (v.21.2) Transform Tool

Why does Photoshop's CC 2020 (v.21.2) Transform Tool require different keys to resize than earlier versions of CC 2020?  The "Use Legacy Free Transform" is unchecked. For example, I used to be able to resize from the center by pressing & holding "Alt", but now I have to press and hold Alt + Shift like it was before CC 2019.

  • Alt will scale from the center
  • Shift will scale proportionally when "Use Legacy Free Transform" is checked
  • Proportional is the default when "Use Legacy Free Transform" is unchecked
  • In addition, there is a "Link" widget in the options bar in between Width and Height when Transform is invoked. Check it to link the W & H, uncheck to distort.

Thank you for replying Jane-e. The problem is that

  • Alt does NOT scale proportionally from the center anymore - it free transforms from the center now.
  • Shift scales proportionally, but NOT from he center anymore - it scales proportionally from the corner.
  • "Use Legacy Free Transform" is NOT checked.

The Transform Tool is reacting as it did prior to CC 2019 and I don't know how to correct it. 😢

I think you misread what I wrote, BLTV.

I wrote:

  • "Alt will scale from the center"

You wrote:

I didn't say Alt scales proportionally. It doesn't. Alt will scale from the center.

I didn't say Shift scales from the center. It doesn't. The behavior of Shift in 2020 depends on what opens are set. Alt scales from the center.

You can use both Shift and Alt together if needed. Here are two links that may help. One is from Adobe Help and the other from Julieanne Kost.

Let us know if this helps or if you need more clarification.
