Photoshop CC: Save As PDF Corrupts PSD
I've been diagnosing an issue of file corruption for a user and have been able to find the sequence of steps that is causing their problem.
1) Open a PSD file
2) Select Save As > PDF
3) Click through all the dialogs and save the PDF to the same directory as the PSD.
4) Examine files in Finder. The PSD file will now be very small and have no preview.
The Finder will still show the PSD file as an Adobe Photoshop file because it has the same file type information. Attempting to open it in Photoshop will report that the file is not a valid Photoshop file. After looking at it in a hex editor, I realized it was actually a PDF. Changing the file information and opening it showed that it indeed was a PDF of the same file. Photoshop also created the much larger PDF file that was intended via the Save As, so there's definitely an issue here.
Saving to a different directory does not do this, so there is a workaround. Unfortunately, one of our users lost a bunch of PSDs before we figured it out.
This is a bug that needs to be fixed!
