Photoshop crashes unless I "edit as smart object in Photoshop" from Lightroom.

When I'm editing in Lightroom and want to edit the picture in Photoshop, Photoshop crashes when the picture reaches it, unless I select "open as smart object in Photoshop". It runs fine then with the exception that I have rasterize the image for anything like the healing brush to work. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop and still run into the same problem. I am running the Creative Cloud Photographer's Bundle with Lightroom CC and latest Photoshop versions.
