Photoshop crashes when opening a Jpeg or Raw file
So this is an issue that has been bothering me recently:
I go to open a jpeg - a previously retouched photgraph which I know is fine and has been opened fine before and PS crashes without warning.
Upon looking into the issue a little (read googling it) I discover a suggested fix to the issue, and it's the same fix that appears when you try and submit a crash report and there are previous fixes for the issue, thereby stopping you submitting a report. The answer is turn of some performance related preference within PS - great says I - turn off said preference and away we go again, jpeg opens and all is right with the world....
.... or that is until I come to open a raw file which crashes PS again without warning and guess what the same suggested fix is shown from adobe and searching the web - turn on some performace related preference in PS, problem is if I turn that on again then I cant open Jpegs and if I turn it off I cant open Raws, what gives Adobe?
The preference refers to multithreaded compositing as being the culprit.
Now I may have missed something but I'm running the latest software on the latest M2 Max macbook pro with essentially top specs as well as fresh installations of photoshop and ventura and I find it bizarre that there is even an issue at all - surely there must be a fix for this to allow full performance with PS without having to keep restarting the app to switch a setting around?? It seems like opening a jpeg should be one of the basic things that PS does well without any issues at all. Same goes for Raw files although granted they may be slightly more complex than a jpeg - one should not negate the other.
Can we have this fixed please? much appreciated.
Steps to produce the problem get the latest macbook pro M2 max system install ventura OS latest version, install Adobe CC latest version as well as PS latest release.
Turn on all performace settings that are applicable including multithreaded compositing - try and open a Jpeg that has been saved previously from PS - app should quit. Now flick the switch on multithreaded compositing and try again app works. Do the reverse for Raw files - in my case Raws from a Canon EOS R6.
