Photoshop crawls as it constantly redraws OS X Finder image thumbnail after every click in the app
PS v25.5.1 | OSX 12.7 Monterey | Mac Pro Trash Can (but it zips along once I close the folder so . . )
I am experiencing an enormous reduction in Photoshop speed when editing an image when its filename is also selected in its respective folder that shows a thumbnail - in my case, specifically in list mode..
It appears that either Photoshop or OSX is redrawing the preview in real time as I work on the file.
Steps to repeat:
0 - make sure you have 'show items as list' in the folder window.
1 - select an image open the folder containing the image.
2 - right click for the contextual menu top open it in Photoshop 25.5.1
3 - Go straght to Photoshop while leaving the image folder open. There will be a preview to the right of the file list and it should show a thumbnail of the image you opened.
4 - WITH THAT FOLDER STILL OEPEN AND THE THUMBNAIL STILL SHOWING try to do literally ANYthing in Photoshop without waiting about 10 seconds between clicking the mouse and seeing a response in the app. You'l notice the thumbnail preview in that folder keeps updating. Once it updates, photoshop becomes responsive again.
5 - Close the folder containing the image (which also closes the real-time preview drawing) and enjoy the rest of your day because Photoshop is once again responsive.
Feature request: If it's not there - if i have overlooked this option - then ignore this. Otherwise, please consider putting an option disable redrawing the preview in real time. Redraw the thumbnail only after the image file is saved. Sometimes I need to keep the window of my images open because I deal with a lot of images. If I have to deselect the image, it is just UX friction and hassle I don't need to fool with. I contextually click to open the image, which goes straight to Photoshop. I work across three screens and I don't need the hassle of dipping back out of Photoshop just so that filename isn't selected.
Thx for your consideration
