Question

Photoshop CS5

I am running a Mac - macOS Mojave 10.14.4

I am running Photoshop CS5 Extended Version 12.1. x64.

Photoshop keeps crashing after it's opened. The program will open normally, and then when I open an image file and click on it, the program just crashes. A problem report window opens and says "Photoshop quit unexpectedly."

It does this with all images file types. I have rebooted my computer.

Can anyone provided assistance?

I’m really surprised that so many people consider this okay. It’s extortion. Why should I pay an additional $10/month, $120/year, for something I already bought and worked just fine? And that’s just Photoshop. I already paid $160 to buy an updated version of Excel that would work with Mojave.

Apple made the change to their OS, and Adobe and Microsoft will be the beneficiaries since we all have to pay them more money if we want to continue using the older programs. So who’s to blame? My opinion is all three companies.

If you had an old Dodge and it was running just fine, would you be so complacent when you discovered it no longer worked due to some phantom “improvements” in the industry? Would you just buy a new car without complaint?

I am a long-time user of Apple, Adobe, and Microsoft Excel. I used to be a big fan. No more.

But old software does still work if you freeze your operating system and your hardware. Once you decide to upgrade any of those three then you take the risk that the others will need to be upgraded also.

The Photography plan costs only $10 a month and includes  Lightroom and updates as they become available, and you can use it on two computers.

I have this problem too. I am beyond pissed that I paid a good amount of money to purchase CS5 years ago and I can no longer use it. Is anyone considering a class-action lawsuit?

Go ahead and sue Apple for making changes that rendered your old program useless

Owners of old programs simply have problems with new Mac operating systems... none of which is Adobe's fault... Adobe did not change your old program to make it stop working... Apple changed their operating system and THAT is why your old programs won't work, not because of anything Adobe did... Also... every time Apple issues an update, there is the risk that an old program that HAS been working will STOP working... bottom line, old programs require a matching old operating system

CS5 is legacy software from 2010.  It is not certified to work on Mojave, sorry.   You could run an older OS on a virtual machine or 2nd computer that is compatible with CS5.

Or you could get a 1 year subscription to the Creative Cloud  Photography Plan -- a deeply discounted bundle of professional software for about $10/month.
Adobe Creative Cloud Photography plan | Professional photo editing software

  • Photoshop CC
  • Lightroom CC
  • Lighrtoom Classic
  • Bridge
  • Camera Raw
  • Spark
  • Portfolio/Behance
  • 20GB of Cloud Storage
  • + other apps & services

Or for non-power users, there's Photoshop Elements for about $100.  No subscription required.

Mojave is a newish OS for the Mac, and It’s been a known issue that CS6 isn’t compatible with Mojave, so I can imagine that cs5 would have the same compatibility issue

Unfortunately, your version of Photoshop might not be compatible with your computer. There’s a lot of people having issues with CS6 and Mojave

It has been working fine for years. And I have not done any recent updates. That cannot be accurate. Why would it suddenly stop working?

You updated to Mojave. Maybe you should consider reverting to an earlier OS, or upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop.
