Photoshop Cs5 -Old School

Good morning,

I appoligize if this isn't the correct place to be. I have no idea where to post this as its been quit awhile since Ive had to post anything. Please point my question below to the correct location:

Im hoping someone can give me some help to a problem. I own a copy of PS CS5 and have used it for 9 years with no problems. However ever since I upgraded my MacBook Pro to High Sierra, Ive had all of these “Pop Up” Messages while the program is loading (see pic attached). ALSO: when I shut down the program I always get a “pop up” stating the “Photoshop quit unexpectedly” (see pic attached).

It’s very annoying to deal with these individual pop ups by clicking the OK button to just get into my program. Is there anyway to stop these pop ups? I have not tried to uninstall the program and then reinstall it as Im afraid since Adobe has moved to the cloud and isn’t supporting us older software holders anymore something strange might happen to prohibit the program from working or install properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I do have a legal serial number.

Thank you very much for reading.

PROBLEM FIXED: Im reporting back that Adobe fixed my problem by sending me a link for CS5. When I first ran the DMG it didn’t work. I emailed Adobe, they sent instructions which didn’t work. I emailed them again, they sent another set of instructions using the Terminal Screen. After using it I was able to load the CS5 program and I no longer got the pop up error messages when I start CS5, but I still get the Error message when shutting CS5 down which I can live with. I should note that my CS6 program works fine no problems at all. Adobe stuck with me for 10 days of emailing until we found a solution that worked. I can’t afford the monthly cloud costs so Im grateful they didn’t abandon an old school software owner. My MBP runs High Sierra. Case closed for me.

This is the unfortunate reality of computers and software. Newer operating systems are not developed to work with old software. On the flip side, new software is not written to work on old operating systems. If you want to use your CS5 version of Photoshop you need to roll back your operating system and stay there.

Some day your computer will reach end of life. When you purchase a new computer you will have to upgrade your software.

Thanks Theresa,

Yes I totally agree with you, the realities of computers and software is very frustrating. Its been a constant conversation at work and home with a lot of colorful metaphors added to enhance our thoughts. LOL. I might just reinstall Cs5, if anything bad happens I still have Cs6. I also have other programs similar to PS so It wont be a total loss. Like my favs, all good things will come to an end eventually.

Have you tried going back to the previous OS? Did you keep a Time Machine backup?

Photoshop CS5 came out about 12 years ago.

Your OS came out in 2017. How did you upgrade to that OS--is your computer not allowing any more upgrades?

Adobe has not "moved to the cloud" per se but if you are referring to subscription-only licenses, you are correct. Also, you could probably not reactivate your software at this point, so don't uninstall. You can see if the Photoshop installer has a "repair" function to repair some missing parts. If you don't see that option, stop and don't change anything.

Hello Creamer Training,

I bought Cs5 back in Dec 2013. I never had any problems with any of the MB upgrades as I came along until High Sierra. I really dont want to roll back as Im not that computer savy, the directions are kinda involved. I dont trust nor have the patience anymore to do this myself. There are 4 more OS upgrades for my MB and I dont want to go there. There are a lot of older programs I run daily that are not compatible with the newst upgrades.

I always liked Cs5 more than Cs6 as Ive downloaded some cool tools for Cs5 that arent compatable with Cs6. However I did reinstall my Cs6 CD and its running perfectly no weird pop ups. Since Cs6 is working fine maybe I should take the chance and reinstall Cs5?

Thanks for your insight.
