Question

Photoshop CS6 won't let me draw

I just barely started using photoshop. The first morning I used it I was able to draw a bit. Now, however, I open a blank canvas and press the pencil tool, but it won't work anymore. I AM new to this, so when I first got on there I naturally clicked a bunch of random buttons trying to make a blank canvas. I think one of those buttons may have helped me draw but I don't know. Please help.

Some of the many possible reasons the pencil tool doesn't work to draw include, but are not limited to:

  • The opacity of the layer is too low
  • The opacity in the pencil options is too low
  • The blending mode of the layer or the option is interfering
  • The color you are drawing with matches the color of the canvas
  • You are on a trying to draw on a shape layer or type layer or smart object layer
  • You are drawing in Quick Mask mode

If you show screen shots we might be able to help you figure it out!
