Question

Photoshop does not honour my document settings, will not export in 300dpi, just 96 dpi

Using Windows 10, Photoshop CC, latest update as of 01/12/23.

No matter how I try and export the image, I get a 96DPI export, resizing, resampling, creating a new document, editing an image the correct size, all doesn't work. Very frustrating.

Export As/Quick Export strips all resolution metadata (it's not there at all, different software assigns a default of 96, or 72 etc).

Export Save for Web (Legacy) also strips the resolution metadata, even with the "All" option.

This behaviour is by design, these methods are for screens/devices where resolution metadata is meaningless.

Use Save As/Save as a Copy to retain resolution metadata for print sizing.
