Question

Photoshop doesn't recognize keys

Hello,

I have a really weird problem: Photoshop CC 2017 (latest version updated through the application manager) doesn't recognize my keys. Well, not totally, it's weird to describe. I'll give it a shot:

I start PS and try to create a new file -> Ctrl + N

Doesn't work, nothing happens. I then create a document manually and try to switch to the brush -> B

No reaction. Its the same with all keys: Rectangle tool, Select everything, swap colors etc...

When I am in the brush tool for example and I press the modifier keys, I see that they are being registered, I see for example the color picker or the duplicate cursor.

When I look into the keyboard shortcuts, everything is looking normal. When I try to reassign for example "New document" to Ctrl + N, PS doesn't recognize the keys.

I tried with Illustrator, Experience Design and a bunch of non Adobe programs and everything is working perfectly. It only happens with Photoshop. I made sure that no other program is running while I tested everything and I already reseted PS and also did a new install.

I'm on a Windows 10 64bit Thinkpad T450s with latest updates. No external keyboard, no Wacom tablet and my copy of PS is an original (apparently a crack can mess with the shortcuts).

Can someone help me with this?

Daniel

When you use a brush how do you use  it without clicking on the image which is what I asked you to do when the problem happens. If you click on the image you have done what I asked you to do to make sure Photoshop has focus.

I think sometimes Photoshop may loose system focus so the OS does not pass key to it. When this problem happens again try clicking on the image to get system focus then see it the shortcuts work.
