Question

Photoshop doesnt work properly

Photoshop is not working properly as it should. I don’t even know how to explain what’s wrong with it but it's so slow in any action and I'm so fed up with this issues I can’t even express my frustration with this program. Updating the last version of photoshop doesn’t seem to do nothing else rather than just crush even more my photoshop.

I'm tired of restarting every 2 min my laptop because photoshop doesn’t work properly!

I'm starting to make some progress on a solution.

i5 7400T, Intel HD 630, Radeon R7 M460, 16gb RAM.

The issue seems to be with the GPU accelleration.

I've used CCleaner to update all my drivers. (using Radeon Software and Windows Device Manager wasn't finding any new drivers)

I am now getting 50/50 between the software being slow and running as intended. I will be trying to "Deactivate Native Canvas" under Preferences > Technology Previews as suggested by @War Unicorn

The only changes between now and when it last worked appear to be a Windows Update (Previous photoshop version's not solving my issue)

It is still doing some driver updates and I'll confirm if this fixes completely. Hope this helps.

Still no luck, I am back to square one with all my brushes being terribly slow. I'm uncertain at this point if this is an issue with photoshop or something else.

If I find a solution I will put it here.

Just a heads up - MSI Afterburner and more specifically Rivatuner were the cause of GPU issues for me.  Unloading them on startup solved my issues which were very similar to those stated above.

Latest update is super buggy on my new 24" iMac. Image flickers in and out so it's very tough to do anything at all. It often disapears altogether. Super frustrating.

First, try disabling GPU in the preferences (Preformance tab). Any better?
If not, recalibrate and build a new ICC display profile, the old one might be corrupted.
If you are using software/hardware for this task, be sure the software is set to build a matrix not LUT profile, Version 2 not Version 4 profile.
If turning OFF GPU works, it's a GPU bug and you need to contact the manufacturer or find out if there's an updated driver for it.

Disabling the GPU helped, thank you! Looking for updated drivers now.

The issue is you are not giving us enough info to help you solve this a community.

Are you using Mac or PC?

Which version?

How old is your computer?

How much memory does it have?

Are you experiencing any other issues with your computer?

See without this info no one can help you.

It could be the software itself or it could be your computer.  Again, without details, no one can help you.

Sorry about the lack of information. I hadn't really thought about it. Everything was working fine on Thursday 23rd.

I don't have the specifications with me but off the top of my head I believe: 16gb RAM, radeon 530 gpu and somewhere along an i5 4200 (I think)

Trying photoshop on my home PC, I am also seeing noticable slowdowns: 32gb RAM, RTX 2080, Ryzen 7 5800X

I've checked the scratch disks and there is ample space, I'm really not sure what I'm missing here.

The only consistent change with both PC's is a recent windows update so that is what I am going to look into next.

Hi Joseph,

Sorry  if I’m not sure how to explain properly the issues. I'm a Mac user with 16GB, processor 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7, and graphics Intel HD Graphics 630 1536 MB.

I have a lot of problems with photoshop. Especially every time I install the latest update.
My main problem is that it slows down everything I do (even when I only use the zoom). It works fine some days and other days it stops working. The 'spot healing' leaves a black border where I intend to use it so I just can't use it. Lastly, anything I try to do in 3D will definitely not work (attached is a picture of what the screen looks like when using 3D). As you can see, is missing many panels I used to be able to see when using the 3D window. There is not even a perspective field neither other camera views , etc... Also, it won’t allow me to do anything with it so it forces me to close photoshop entirely.

So far, after trying all the tips I was reading about, the only thing that seems to work is uninstalling photoshop an installing the 22.0.0 version.

People are having problems with 3D features due to "native canvas". See here (under, "3D"):

Known issues in Photoshop

The workaround is to enable "Deactivate Native Canvas" under Preferences > Technology Previews until they can get a handle on it. (Remember to restart.)

Exactly the same issue here. Been trying to troubleshoot and cannot find any solution. Once it is open it works fine for maybe 1 or 2 brush strokes then immediately becomes slow. It especially happens if I ctrl-X. I've looked at my performances and nothing out of the ordinary for CPU or GPU so I assume theres some kind of memory leak?

Really need a fix for this. Going to try a fresh isntall of a previous version. Losing so many hours of work to this issue with no resolution in sight.

Hi George,

Before you do a fresh install, try resetting preference (after backing up customization.) It's not the same thing as a clean install.

Prefs > General > Reset Preferences on Quit.

Hi Jane,

I tried both a preferences reset and fresh installed 23.3.1 to see if that would help. I'm starting to think maybe some other software is causing the problem, I have tried closing everything though.
