Photoshop file contents completely vanished, but file properties show it is still there

I've been working on a side project through the latest version of photoshop and haven't had any issues. The file appears normal and says it hasn't been modified since the last time I've opened it, still contains the same file size and everything, however, I opened my project today to find it has completely vanished. When you open it, its like opening any other project for the first time, a blank canvas. I cannot find any explanation, I've always saved it myself. There was no issues with I closed the project last time. Nothing was mysteriously removed. The file even shows that contents is there on the recent files page. I do not understand what happened. Has this happened to anyone? Does anyone know how to fix this without losing all my work or is it too late? I'm working on a windows laptop.
