Photoshop File Extensions

I am using Photoshop cc 2019 version on a mac and recently updated to Mac OS 10.15 Catalina. For some reason even though I have the preferences set to add extensions to saved files. It is no longer doing that. Is this a Mac OS issue or a photoshop issue?
