photoshop files lost

I had been working on about 6 files recently. All of which were still not saved. But from time to time, though it stipulates 'Untitled' as the file name in Photoshop, it also stipulates some of my text layer as its file name. So I assumed that means they are saved somehow.

Yesterday, while I was exporting some layers to JPG, my photoshop was unresponsive, and forced me to restart. Afterwards, all of my files are gone. I tried checking in the Autorecover folder in my Mac, but nothing. (despite my photoshop being set to autosave every 10 minutes) Nothing in CreativeCloud either. 

 

I tried the temp files method, but I don't know what or how I should be looking through them. There seems to only be just folders.

I am very very desperate to get these files back.. I was utterly devestated after this happened last night. I had been working on them a little over a week, and it is due for submission later today. Need advise 😞

Hi Hendra.

 

I have never noticed new documents taking on the name of a type layer, but they do show in the tab (if working with Consolidate all to Tabs.  You can see below that the document still has Untitled as its file name, and we know it has not been saved.

 

However, you shouldn't have lost your files.  If Photoshop crashes then It has always managed to save open files to AutoRecover, and the next time I open Photoshop, it opens with all of those files with 'Recovered' added to their file names. You can't go looking for Recoved files — it doesn't work that way.

 

If it was not a crash but a manual close down, then it will ask if you want to save open files.  Do you have AutoRecover enabled in Preferences?

 

You say these were a week's work?  I'm guessing that you did not work on a project for a week without saving it?

    Thank you so much for taking the time to advise me. Very helpful to learn about what you described in the former part of your response! Unfortunately, yes, I have been working on a project for a week without saving it (worked on it sporadically every evening). I assumed that at one point it would be saved somehow, but that is my mistake. 

    I definitely had my Autorecover enabled. I specifically recall that Photoshop didn't prompt for me to save open files before it closed. While I was trying to export some layers to JPG, Photoshop began being unresponsive for a short while, then crashed.
