As the others have said, when you save Photoshop files, they save as .psd (or PSD) files.

In your operating system, PSD files are linked to Elements. Change the file association by linking PSD files to Photoshop.

"cs5"

That is a program, not an operating system.

An operating system is Windows 10 or Catalina, for example.

Change the file associations in your operating system settings.

Nothing to do with any of that. Elements is simply usurping the file associations as apparently it was installed after your old regular PS. A simple web search can tell you how to change the default file handler/ program for your operating system.
