photoshop filter gallery

when I add certain filters from the filter gallery to my image it completely changes the colours of my image to red and purple/blueish colours. I'm not sure what is causing this even b&w images switch to this strange colourway 

 

any help? been stuck on this for a minuteeeee.

What colors are currently set in the toolbar for your foreground and background? Try setting them back to the default black and white by clicking on the tiny black and white boxes icon to the upper left of the foreground and background colors at the bottom of the toolbar.
