Photoshop freezes when opening files

Whenever I open photoshop it opens fine but, when I want to open a file from my computer it freezes. I checked my graphics card driver and it is up to date. Photoshop is up do date with the latest version and I am using Windows 10. It freezes when I select "downloads" from my files. Any help to solve this would be appreciated as I need photoshop for my classes.

@FS5F95 We're sorry that the steps didn't help! Which file format are you opening? Is the app freezing with every file format?

seems to me like only .jpg files cause the problem png and psd work fine for me ..i tryed to "Disable Native Canvas" i saw that in some other similar chat bit it did not fix it. So strange yesterday i workt like 50 jpg files just fine but later this day it started to freeze ...no driver updates on my sistem at all yesterday but everything is up to date.

Dear Nikunj, after reinstall of the latest PS version, disabling the use of GPU, resetting preferences, I'm still not able to open any file without freezing the program. I have to close the program by using ctr-alt-del. Any suggestions left?

Thanks for the quick response. Due to the problems I uninstalled PS at the moment completely, after trying several older and the latest version of PS. Tomorrow I will reinstall PS and check if your suggestion will fix the problem. I will report later tomorrow.

We're sorry about the trouble with Photoshop. Would you mind sharing the exact version of Photoshop you're using along with your computers operating system? Which file format are you trying to open in Photoshop?

You can try disabling the option to Use Graphics Processor from Photoshop by going to Preferences, then Performance. Once done, quit & relaunch Photoshop to check if that helps.

Same for me, resetting preferences is no solution. Uninstalling and installing older version does not help. PS is freezing by opening any file.
