Photoshop Freezes when using Smart Objects

 2021 MacBook Pro M1 Max 64Gmem running 13.6.1

Photoshop 25.5.1

 

When working with Smart Objects, Photoshop will freeze and become unresponsive leading to a Force Quit. This happens when opening a Smart Object to edit contents in Camera Raw (16.2.0.1763). I see a pop-up window stating "Preparing Smart Object" with a progress bar and both PS and ACR become completely unresponsive. I've experienced this 6 times since updating all apps yesterday. 

 

FWIW this has cost me accumulative full day's work and I just missed my deadline.

    Hey, @gerald5C9C.  I'll help you figure this out. I've moved the thread to the discussion for now.

     

    Before anything else, please update the macOS to update the GPU drivers & other components of macOS. 

    In Photoshop, press & hold the CMD + OPT key, go to Photoshop > Settings > Camera Raw Preferences, and select 'Yes' when prompted to reset Camera Raw preferences.
