Photoshop has encountered a problem with the display driver; GPU is off

I have an old mid-2009 MacBook Pro with an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB card, and my GPU is turned off, yet I get this message with most launches, but not all. It's only mildly annoying because it's just an extra click, but still, any way around it? Right now it's set to increase battery life versus speed, which I will change and see what happens, but I have so many apps open I will try after this post.

Photoshop CC and the latest version of CS6 Extended require at least 512Mb of VRAM in macOS.

Have you kept your Apple system up to date. 2009 is 7 years old make sure you have apple latest device driver installed for your nvidia display adapter.

It's up to date insofar as Apple's occasional updates are concerned. I didn't see anything specific at the NVIDIA site.
