Photoshop has gone crazy.

I'm trying to work with the latest version of Photoshop CC. I need it for my job and so far this morning I have experienced:

~ Eye Dropper Tool: Won't select the colour I need, keeps vererting back to black, although it does say for a millisecond that it has selected the correct colour.
~ Eraser Tool: erases whatever it likes, not what I want. Zig Zags like crazy and it has taken me 2 minutes to be able to get a straight line without any other bits going with it.
~ Paintbrush Tool: Like the eraser tool, this decided to colour everywhere other than where I want. Leaving zig zags over my work.
~ Shape Tool: I need to draw an outline for a print out and I am unable to even make a line, the tool won't work and i cant even make one using the brush as that doesn't work either.

~ Clone Tool: puts the clone anywhere it wants, other than where I want it.
~Spot Healing Tool: Heals literally everything so it looks like a melted mess.

I can't downgrade as I am on the latest Windows and this is a new work computer and apparently I can't use older photoshops on the new Windows. It has been fine up till now, but it is making working impossible. I NEED photoshop to do my job and i cant do my job with a buggy photoshop!

I resolved my issues but through a painful process that other should be wary about.

That is, beware of people telling you to reset and use PS cleaners etc, unless you wish to spend a lot of time, as I did, rebuilding your PS environment 😉

Any I started switching off and removing apps that I, bluntly, don't use anymore and found one app, Duet Display, that, when removed, allowed the PS sys dump to work.

Luck? Who knows with PS 🙂

Anyway removing Duet Display worked for me.

But, as I say, be wary about reinstalling PS 😉

As I said in the last repy, I can't do a sys info dump as Ps freezes when I try to do this, and the task manager confirms that Ps is not responding.

This happens in I place Ps in the normal monitr or the 4K one.

Sorry that the suggestions have not helped, here are my notes on these kind of Photoshop issues:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#reset_preferences

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html

And

https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-discussions/quick-tips-how-to-reset-photoshop-preferences/td-p/12502668

You may want to backup your settings and your custom presets, brushes & actions before restoring Photoshop's preferences.

Here is general info that:  https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#BackupPhotoshoppreferences

Also take a look at the following article and check if that helps:

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/printing-color-management-photoshop1.html

Preferences file location: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/preference-file-names-locations-photoshop.html

On Mac, preference preservation is affected by maxOS permissions, you’ll need to allow Photoshop ‘Full Disk Access’ in your Mac OS Preferences/Security and Privacy

It may even be time to reinstall Photoshop.

Its recommended that you use the Adobe CC cleaner tool to remove all traces first.

https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/cc-cleaner-tool-installation-problems.html

Uninstall Photoshop BUT make sure to choose the option “Yes, remove app preference”.

Once that process finishes, start the installation process and look into the “Advanced Options”. Uncheck “Import previous settings and preferences” and choose to “Remove old versions”.

I hope this helps

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

I've just tried the two options you suggested, but no luck.

The Menu problem is there and the clone stamp issue.

If I move Ps to my 2K monitor all is OK.

If I move over to me 4K monitor the prolems come back.

That points to a GPU issue. Go to Preferences > Technology Previews... and check "Disable Native Canvas" - then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still occur?

If that doesn't work, disable the GPU completely. Go to Preferences > Performance... and uncheck Use Graphics Processor. Restart Photoshop. Does the problem persist?

I tried the manual preferences approach, ie removed the folder to the desk top. No change in the 'bugs'.

That is, on a 4K monitor:

  • The crop tool tries to crop from a different position and createsa streak.
  • When you try and select the Ps menu, ie the help, in fact the (sub)menu to 2 or 3 tho the left is selected.

As for trying to get you a copy of the System Info, no lucK.

Ps just freezes and the task manager tells me it's not responding.

Like Ged suggests, let's make sure we're in a default state and there are no stale setting somewhere:
Restore your preferences using this manual method:
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html#Manually
Does it work correctly?
If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.
If it does solve the problem, I would like to get the folder of settings to try and figure out what is bad with them.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Welcome to the crazy world of Adobe customer focused development 🙂

Like you, I also have the clone stamp doing what it likes, but only on a 4K monitor.
Personally I find it difficult to accept that we, the people who supply Adobe profits, post on this forum and get no/little Adobe feedback on what is happening.
Having said that I also recognise the problem, ie Adobe trying to keep up to speed with Windows, and Apple, developments, with new ICs coming along. I have Win 11 with an intel i9.
