Photoshop icons not displaying on mac Big Sur for .jpg, .tiff, .png files

I just purchased a new mac mini with the M1 chip and using Big Sur latest update along with the latest Adobe Photoshop (for intel). For some reason the PS icon does not display for any .jpg, .tiff. and .png files. I made sure that photoshop opens these files but the icon remains as the 'Preview' icon on the mac.

Anyone have an idea on how to get the icons for the file extensions above to display the PS icon? I don't want the 'show icon preview' option and turned that option off as it displays the preview of the photot. I just want the PSD file so I can differentiate between other apps.

View a file of the format you want to open and Command I. At the bottom of the resulting dialogue box, you'll see the ability to change the Open ith option to Photoshop, instead of Preview ( the usual default). Choose that, and tell the computer to do it for all files of that type. This is how it always used to work, although I don't have Big Sur
